Extreme Home Makeover from Voluntown
Perhaps some of our campers watched "Extreme Home Makeover" last night, as it featured the story of the Girards of neighboring Voluntown. If you missed the story last summer, following a fire which destroyed their home, the father and oldest son drowned at Green Falls in the Pachaug State forest. In December, the old house was demolished and a new "castle" was built for the family as they were sent to Disney for the week (which was the same week our family was at Disney, but we did not bump into them). If you missed the show, it was a tear-jerker. The next time you are out this way, take a ride by the house. It is on RT 165, about 2 miles past Buttonwood's Ice Cream, on the left, just before Town Pizza. You can't miss the solar panels, and the house itself is quite large. The region really worked together, and local carpenter volunteers included Chuck & Mark.
